Gravel extraction workings of the Rickmansworth Sand & Gravel Co. Ltd by Long Valley Woods. The extracted gravel was transported away from the site via sidings connected to the nearby Metropolitan Railway. These working and those of the nearby Croxley Hall Woods existed from about 1902 - 1934 when the gravel had been worked out and extraction operations moved further along the Colne valley. From the mid 1950s, the site would serve as Croxley (sometimes Watford) Tip, London Transport's engineering spoil disposal site. Croxley Tip gradually fell into disuse and was abandoned in the early 1980s. Now a local community recreation area - Buddleia Walk.
