On this site was built the famous local pub, The Allan Fold. The local brewery, Webster's, built and opened this pub in 1939 as part of an ambitious development programme in the 1930s. The pub took its name from Allan Fold House a 17th century house on the site. Part of the house, dated 1654, remains on the side of Burnley Road and became part of the retaining wall of the pub car park.
The pub changed hands in the 1980s and was known as the Second Best for a while - what an odd name for any pub! The pub still (2013) still exists in its 1930s building but is now called the Hills View. |
