The Swan Hotel, cross roads Abingdon road. known as the Swan for most of the last 300 years, there is some evidence to suggest that it was at one time called the new Crowne. In a mortgage assignment document dated 1720,a mention is made of a Mary Arnold, sister of John Arnold at the New Crowne in Ilsley, John Arnold is believed to have been at the Swan at the time so it implies that the name was changed sometime between 1720 and 1746,when he died mentioning the Swan pub by name in his Will. next to the Sun Pub out of photo, both Morlands & Co Ltd public houses. And looking north the Crown & Horns pub on the left.

The Sun Pub left, Abingdon Road, Demolished in 1969 for road widening works to do with new A34 by pass. The building to the left is the old Post Office. The Sun pub was owned in 1836 by Horner's Brewery West Ilsey by 1872 it was owned by Edward Henry Morland and is one of the pubs transferred to Morland & Co Ltd Abingdon, in 1889.In the trust deed that accompanied the transfer, the Sun pub is described as being formerly the Swan Tap. This is probably incorrect, since the building assumed to be the Tap lay on the opposite side of Fidler's Lane and is believed to have been demolished earlier.
