The Swan Hotel, cross roads Abingdon road. known as the Swan for most of the last 300 years, there is some evidence to suggest that it was at one time called the new Crowne. In a mortgage assignment document dated 1720,a mention is made of a Mary Arnold, sister of John Arnold at the New Crowne in Ilsley, John Arnold is believed to have been at the Swan at the time so it implies that the name was changed
sometime between 1720 and 1746,when he died mentioning the Swan pub by name in his Will.
next to the Sun Pub out of photo, both Morlands & Co Ltd public houses. And looking north the Crown & Horns pub on the left.
