London Flying Club (Hendon Country Club), in 1934 this was obtained by the Metropolitan Police as the first incarnation of their police training college.
It was subsequently expanded and took over the majority of the area between Aerodrome Road and the Northern Line. |

This is the Everett Edgcumbe factory where electrical measuring instruments were made: voltmeters, ammeters etc. They also made the megameter? a version of which is still in use today.
I served my apprenticeship from 1951 to 1956 here. |

This building was, for a time, named "Aerial House"; while Aerofilms was resident in the mid-1920s. Here's their own snapshot from a contemporary advertisement. |

The frontage has been altered and it has a new roof, but the footprint is essentially the same - T.F. Bristow and Co soaps then, KwikFit now. |

I tend to disagree about the footprint being essentially the same. If you look at he left hand structure in the aerial view, it extends as far back as the short row of terraced houses in Annesley Avenue. In Google Earth, it now ends well short of them. The right hand structure is now about 1/3 of that shown in the aerial view and contiguous with its neighbour to the left. Either very radically altered or an entirely newer build. |

Colindale Station. The original station was destroyed by a bomb on the 25th September 1940. It was a nice looking station with pillars outside similar to Hendon Central and the other Northern Line surface stations. |

This was Phoenix Telephones in the 1960's. The old buildings were demolished and replaced by The Yoahan Centre in 1993. This only lasted until 2008 when it was closed down. Currently (2012) the bulidings stand empty and boarded up. Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oriental_City |

Up to 1932 this was Kingsbury County Grammar School. The school moved to a new building in Princes Avenue,NW9. In the 60's this was the Colindale Annexe to the North London Polytechnic. It is now a Jewish School. |

Although it has been used for educational purposes for most of its life, this building was originally built around 1916 by the Aircraft Manufacturing Company Ltd ("Airco") as offices for their vast factory and airfield which stretched from the Edgware Road to Stag Lane, and which had previously been the estate around Grove Park house. By the end of the First World War, this may well have been the largest aircraft factory in the world, employing around 4,400 people. |

Hendon Aerodrome...

Here is the classic scene from the original Dirty Dozen film with Lee Marvin and Donald Sutherland at the entrance to Hendon Aerodrome. This is now the roundabout at the top of Colindale Avenue where it meets Aerodrome Road. There is nothing left that is filmed from this scene except the houses in Booth Road. Aerodrome Road used to be a private MOD road up to the 70's with a gate at each end. This gate was shut on one day each year, Christmas Day. The road was always in a terrible condition full of pot holes until it was tarmaced over in the 70's. |
