Tramcar returning to Hampton Court. Usually tram routes terminated at a point in the road where the tracks ended. The usual practice was to swing the trolley pole to the opposite direction while the driver changed ends and then set off back from whence they came. Here though the tracks continued round the block from Worple Road, into Hill Road, along St George Road and Francis Grove and back into Worple Road. When the trolleybuses replaced the trams they went around the block in an anti clockwise direction, for the first 15 months of running, until the wires were extended to outside the Town Hall. |

Heading to the terminus at Woodside road on Wimbledon Hill. As these services were operated by London County Council there was no through running with the Hampton Court trams operated by the London United Tramways which arrived in Wimbledon along Worple Road. With the coming of the trolleybuses in 1931 Both trams and trolleybuses eventually terminated outside the Town Hall. |
