These wooden huts were lived in by families made homeless during WW2. Certainly these were unofficial occupations but they provided a warm, comfortable place to live for people who had nothing better. I Iast visited them during the middle 1950s but don't know when exactly they disappeared. |

Dad drove delivery lorries(Bedford pantechnicon and a maroon Commer flat bed) for ELPC delivering to the likes of Kodak in Hemel Hempstead and I worked here during the summer in the mid 60's making packing cases. |

I can't beleive this but that tiny figure is almost certainly "Charlie the gardener" caught in action with his treasured motor mower.Charlie was the estate resident gardener,a tiny little chap with a huge young gangaling assistant,both of whom toilled endlessly to keep the grass and gardens of the estate under control. |
