Opened 1869. Part rebuilt in mid-1930s after a major fire. Closed in 1986 after part of decking collapsed. After another fire in 1991, the pier was demolished around 1992.

A storm in November 1977 damaged a third of the pier. Costs of repair were estimated at £500,000, and the high cost lead to the demolition of the pier in 1978.

Two piers can be seen but the West End pier was burnt down and the Central pier was wrecked by storms.

In the barnstorming days Morecambe Town Council would not allow the light aircraft to fly from their beach so the pilots moved along to near the West End pier and flew from there because that was officially classed as being part of Heysham.

The whole of the promenade has been upgraded with new sea defenses, children's play areas & two RNLI lifeboat premises and is now very pleasant six mile walk. See Morecambe Bay Our Heritage Part 1 dvd at www.heritagevideoproductions.co.uk
