The Lancaster Silk Company was the second largest producer of Acetate fibres in the UK after British Celanese Limited.

Courtaulds eventually took over Lansil and integrated it into British Celanese, (which it took over in 1957 and transferred its own small acetate fibres unit into Celanese) I believe it was late 60's early 70's.

Whereas British Celanese carried out all the process of acetate yarn clothing and apparel on site at Spondon (from raw materials coming in to finished product going out) Lansil and Courtaulds only produced the fibres, buying in the cellulose acetate to make the fibres and then sold the yarn to finishers.



Lancaster Silk Company and Courtaulds set up a joint Company, Nelsons Acetate Limited, I believe, at the 'Hercules' works. I am not sure exactly where this was situated, I would be gratefull for any help in locating it if possible.
