In the mid 1920s Hall Engineering of Bolton relocated one of their companies, the Chatwood Safe Company, to a location along Harlescott Lane, on the northern fringes of Harlescott. An estate was built of about 50 houses for occupation by the skilled workforce relocated from Bolton. The houses were designed by the Birmingham architect W G Green in the Arts and Craft style using traditional forms and materials. The houses are set in large gardens, and the company provided each new resident with six fruit trees, many of which still survive. Stadco occupies the current factory site. |
