This is the Klonne Gas-holder at the gas works. It was a German type and built in the late 1920s. It was ironically a target for the Luftwaffe during the Second World War. Usually painted a light colour, this pic seems to show its war-time camouflage colours.

War-time camouflage of potential air-raid targets was organised by the Camouflage Directorate based in Leamington Spa. The artists were civilians and included several well known names. Further information, including pictures, is available on the Internet - Google (or similar search engine) should find some for you.
