The Red House is probably the oldest Inn that exists or existed along Long Lane that was to become Coalville. Records of the Red House are extant from about 1780. Coalville came into existence in 1833.

Whitwick Business Park now stands on the site of Whitwick Colliery. The railway station has closed; it was not the first. The earlier, smaller, station opened on Ashby Road, then known as Long Lane, in 1833
