Possibly Macbraynes SS "Loch Aline" formerly "Plover".

This looks like the Lairds Isle, which was used on Ardrossan-Belfast services for many years.

Noting a launch date of Thursday, 24/02/1938 and an image date of 12th April 1938 I think this ship ‘has’ to be HMS Linnet .

I think this might be Macbraynes PS "Mountaineer"(1910) which was withdrawn and broken up in 1938.

Before the Grouping of the railway companies in 1923, the Caledonian Railway and the Glasgow & South Western each established a ferry terminal at Ardrossan. Theese competing terminii can be seen in this shot: Montgomerie Pier station, originally run by the Caledonian, on the left, and Winton Pier station in the centre. Ferries used to run to Belfast and to the Isle of Man as well as to Arran. The Belast service ceased in 1976 and the last regular summer service to the Isle of Man was in 1985. Caledonian MacBrayne now operates a Ro-Ro ferry from Ardrossan to Brodick on the Isle of Arran
