This may be the building that housed the Jim Crow Tavern. An establishment of dubious repute closed down by the police in the late 1800s.

I think it was called the Acorn Public House at one point it stood opposite The Grapes Inn Public House on the corner of Severn Street and Hill Street

This view shows how New Street railway station was built in the heart of the city centre causing huge changes to the Victorian city. In the 1960s the station was covered over with a new shopping centre which again changed the cityscape.
