Arrangements for tipping from railway wagons, with end doors, into barges on the Weaver Navigation. These are smaller versions of coal stithies seen at many coal ports on the East Coast and in South Wales. As one of the tips here is covered, might it be something to do with the local salt industry? These sidings are connected to the Cheshire Lines Committee network, jointly operated by the LMS and the LNER with a one third and two thirds interest respectively.

Modern images suggest much of this one time industrial landscape next to the Northwich High Street is now given over to non-productive car parking. So often the way with the British economy.
