The pale building near the centre is the Archbishop's Palace. The clear area on the near bank of the river Medway is now occupied by the Crown Court and a cinema complex.

Just above and to the left of the Archbishop's Palace is the Rootes motor factory. A new art deco style building replaced it in the 1930s, which still exists on the site today, as does the mill pond that gives Mill Street its name.

A new footbridge was built across the river just by the Palace to celebrate the millennium.
