Could this be the Stratton Factory Box which was set up to control the entrances to the works so that powder works traffic could enter and leave without having to wait for the regular traffic to pass?

Yes I would agree. According to The Signalling Record Society a box (or ground frame) was opened on 18 February 1917 and closed on 28 July 1919. These photo's of the factory are dated 1920 and although the signal posts still remain in situ close examination shows they have no arms - therefore not in use. The Highworth Branch published by Wild Swan records that up to six times a day trains consisting of 10 wagons would be dispatched to Woolwich [Arsenal] and other destinations.
