Hat Factory

St Alban and St Stephen Roman Catholic church, built 1905 and extended in the 1960s.

Congregational Church, now Trinity United Reformed Church. Building date late C19th.

Now the site of the Iceland store.

The Midland Hotel, once a public house with accommodation. It was closed and converted into apartments a few years ago.

Pub, known as 'The Horn' and still in use.

Station Master's house

Loco appears to be a 4-4-0 with a cab roof which would not keep much of the weather off the crew.

Ridgmont Road - this section was built by the Midland Railway and is still railway land, now owned by Network Rail. One of the station car parks occupies much of the area.

Goods Yard. Closed mid-1960s. In 1971/73 a new station building and entrance was erected here, and now has a bus station in the forecourt.

Footbridge between the platforms was along the side of the Victoria Street road bridge.

Original station building of the 1860s. Demolished in the 1970s after a new station building was erected on the former goods yard, closed in the mid-1960s.

'Lamp Hut' - where the lamps for signals were refilled and serviced to keep flames and flammable liquids away from the wooden signal box!

Former prison block. Built by the City fathers in the 1860s. Became part of HM Prison services at an unknown date, and was taken over by the Military at the start of WW1. They abandoned it at the end of the war and the City fathers reacquired it for use as a council yard circa 1920.

St Albans South Signal Box. Erected by the Midland Railway in 1892 as part of the building of two extra lines into London (The present Slow lines.) Closed in 1980 as part of the electrification of the line. Became derelict, and was taken over in 2006 by the St Albans Signal Box Preservation Trust. Restored and now regularly open to the public. Cafe - was derelict by 1975 and demolished late that year or soon afterwards - replaced by small block of maisonettes

Straw Hat factory - later a Pasta factory - rear factory part later demolished - front used as offices - now converted as a Day Nursery

Bus garage - closed in 1930's after London Transport takeover

Looks like a single decker bus picking up passengers on Victoria Street
