Beatrix Potter stayed with her grandparents at several rented properties in the area, at Bedwell Lodge in 1891 and walked her pet rabbit, Benjamin Bouncer.
The barn at Bedwell became the potting shed in 'Peter Rabbit' (first recorded 1893, published 1901)
