Bedwell Lodge- Post code: AL9 6JB Grade 2 listed - English Heritage Building ID: 158312 House. Early-mid C17. Early C19 re-fronting. Altered late C19 and C20. 2 storeys and attics. Front has C17 red brick ground floor with weatherboarded 1st floor. Beatrix Potter stayed with her grandparents at several rented properties in the area, at Bedwell Lodge in 1891 and walked her pet rabbit, Benjamin Bouncer. The barn at Bedwell became the potting shed in 'Peter Rabbit' (first recorded 1893, published 1901) Another former resident of Bedwell Lodge was Reginald Maudling, former Chancelor of the Exchequer.
