Merthyr High Street Railway Station complete with overall roof. The station was originally constructed for the Vale of Neath Railway. There were five ticket windows in the booking office for the following pregrouping companies. Heolgerrig Halt In 1961 I travelled from here on a school trip with a special train hauled by a Great Western pannier tank to Torpantau. Non corridor stock and no supervision of the children in our compartment!

This area of Merthyr Tydfil was known as Keir Hardie Estate although I find it quite difficult to find much documentary evidence of this fact. I have dug out a copy of the Merthyr Tydfil Corporation Omnibus Department Time Tables dated March 1974 and I attach a copy of the page showing the relevant timetable.
