Not quite. There was indeed a large fire there in 1961, but after fire damage repairs, production resumed at the site. British Moulded Hose Co. remained there until 1977, after which the building was demolished. The factory was built, but only partially completed, just after WW1 by the Watford Manufacturing Company (successor company to Dr Tibbles' Vi-Cocoa Ltd). The cost of the development over-extended the company's finances and forced them into liquidation. The factory building was eventually acquired by the British Moulded Hose Co. in 1929. Curiously, a previous factory building on the site had burned down in 1903, while in the ownership of Dr Tibbles' Vi-Cocoa Ltd . |
