| Just FYI this isn't Clapham - it's Battersea. Clapham Junction is in Battersea. Clapham, on the other hand is in, well, Clapham. Its a long story that catches people out - including Google. But rest assured the place name for this area is Battersea. | Chris Long | Sunday 1st of December 2013 07:49:13 PM |
| Agreed. Wikipedia's entry for Clapham Junction Station gives an explanation: "When the station was built Battersea was regarded as a poor district while Clapham, a mile east, was more fashionable. The railway companies, to attract a middle- and upper-class clientele, adopted the grander of the two names, leading to a long-lasting misunderstanding that the station is in Clapham." | Robin | Sunday 1st of December 2013 07:49:13 PM |
