About here on the right hand side of Bunhill Row going towards Moorgate, was situated the Drill Hall of the L.R.B. The London Rifle Brigade.

During the Blitz, our Air-raid shelter was in the Brewery's

cellars. On the night of DEC 29TH 1940,we had to evacuate them because part of the brewery caught fire. We stood in the street outside and had a grandstand view of the City of London burning from only yards away.

St Luke Old Street, now known as LSO St Luke's. It was completed in 1733, designed by John James, with a spire and other features by Nicholas Hawksmoor.

Because of the louse on top of the spire, it was known to us locals, before the War, as "Lousy Lukes"
