Leicester Central station opened in 1899 and closed in 1969. It was on the Great Central Railway's London Extension, planned by its visionary chairman to the continental loading gauge. Perhaps if Dr Richard Beeching had had some vision in the 1960s, we wouldn't be arguing about High Speed 2 today |
