This property on Prince Consort Rd where it passes Carr St was a Boarding House and a cheap place to sleep. People slept standing up hanging over ropes. This was probably to keep prices down and cram more people into the space. How tough life must have been in those days.

This was part of the Newcastle Shipbuilding Company & the sheds were Platers Sheds. They opened in 1919 & went bankrupt in 1921. The place stood empty until the late 1920s when the Reay Gear Works took over the sheds. Later it became George Angus Gears & later still RW Transmissions. It finally closed in the mid 1970s & now a housing estate stands on this land
