Hawthorn Leslies shipbuilding yard. Little did they know that soon they would have plenty work building warships for the Royal Navy for WW2. The most famous was HMS Kelly as it's commander was Lord Louis Mountbatten. |

The 'Relief' office in the downstairs of the property in Cuthbert St. Out od work men formed queues down the backyard & into the lane hoping for money to feed their families. I know this because my grandmother lived upstairs & saw all of these queues. |
