The Pennings

Wendover Arm of the Grand Junction Canal (which later became the Grand Union Canal) built principally to feed water to the main line of the canal. Due to leakages in the branch, it was closed to navigation in 1904. An active society is restoring the branch, although there is much still to be done.

Wendover Station. Before 1923 it was on the Metropolitan and Great Central Joint line between Great Missenden and Aylesbury. On 12 October 1941 Field Marshall Lord Alanbrooke - a General, I think, then - had a special train laid on to transport him from Wendover Station at 1.45am to meet Prime Minister Churchill at Chequers.
