Wendover Station. Before 1923 it was on the Metropolitan and Great Central Joint line between Great Missenden and Aylesbury. On 12 October 1941 Field Marshall Lord Alanbrooke - a General, I think, then - had a special train laid on to transport him from Wendover Station at 1.45am to meet Prime Minister Churchill at Chequers. The PM in the meantime decided he wanted the meeting at 10 Downing Street instead! [Source: Field Marshall Lord Alanbrooke. War Diaries 1939-1945]
