It looks to me like third rail. But very unusually the third rail is on the same side for both tracks. Normally at the edge except in stations, I think. |

Where was third rail in use in 1929? I've tried to search the Southern Electric (e.g. http://www.flickr.com/photos/36844288@N00/4021376117). Where else might it be? |

Location seems undoubtedly right. 1936-9 1:2500 map at http://www.old-maps.co.uk/maps.html?coords=549800,173500 shows curious rectangular pathway near cemetery. |
