The railway was an independent branch line - The Colne Valley and Halstead Railway - until 1923 when absorbed into the London & North Eastern (LNER). The line closed to passenger traffic at the end of 1961 and final commercial closure came in 1965. Track was lifted in 1966. However about a mile of track around Sible and Castle Hedingham Station has been preserved since 1973 as the Colne Valley Railway - a 'heritage railway' |
