I wonder if the long chassis next to the pin is the fixed six wheel AW1 Thornycroft chassis introduced in 1926 from this factory. Thornycroft produced chassis only on demand for buses, petrol tankers buses and lorries as well as fully built commercial vehicles. One problem with commercial vehicles at this time was the lack of traction from the underpowered engine which meant that off road and uphill the vehicle crawled along.

Most of the former Thorneycroft site is now a Morrsions (former Safeways) supermarket with a couple of light industrial units

This was the Basingstoke to Alton Railway Line closed in the 1950's.

No. It closed in 1936.

The line closed to through traffic on 12th September 1932 but remained open for freight as far as Bentworth until 30th May 1936.

The spur as far as Thornycroft's remained until 1967.

This building still exists but has been out of use since approximately 2002.
