Steam engine was "fireless" due to the risk of fire from a usual open firebox and the boiler was replenished from a central steam point
I knew one of the factory engineers who informed me that Huntley & Palmers had their own large fire brigade reputedly larger than the Reading Corporation fire brigade
When production was ceased a lot of the biscuit making machinery was destroyed and scrapped
There was an on site shop where their products which were "seconds" or near sell by date could be purchased |

A railway line linking the GWR sidings to the north of that companies mainline and the Huntley and Palmer factory to the south of the SR line. A typical industrial location, with very tight curves, that restricted the development of larger railway wagons in the UK compared to other European countries and so continuing the inefficiency of much of the BR railway freight operation during the 1950-60s. |
