Wynn's Iron Foundry. A great sprawling factory that employed a great many staff. Finally closed down in the 1970's before eventually being demolished. |

East Street Primitive Methodist Chape. Originally constructed in the late 19th century,it became Carmel Methodist Church in 1932. After World War 2 the gatherings began to dwindle until finally in 1948 the church closed & the buildings sold off. A housing development now stands on the site. |

The Bethel Church, Union Street. Dating from 1879, the original Bethel is the much smaller building just behind the image in the picture. In 1909 a 'new' Bethel was opened, much closer to the road. This church survived both wars & is still very much in use today - the only church that remains in the village. |

The corner of what is now Longford Road. Sited here is a war memorial, commemorating local people who died in the great war of 1914 - 18. Erected in the 1920s (although details of exactly 'when' remain sketchy. Updated at the end of World War 2 to include locals killed in that war. |

North Street. The main street in Bridgtown. Once a bustling little village centre with a variety of useful shops, North Street today is mainly business orientated. The picture shows North Street in the early 1970s |

In the 50's these building were iron foundry works and I remember the glow from the furnaces at night and the sound of the steam hammers pounding the iron into shape. |

In the 50's this building was a general store and post office. I remember Janet who worked there, she had a very strong Walsall accent. They used to have large mounds of butter on marble counter tops and used wooden butter pats to make them into smaller block s to sell. |

I can just remember this as a butcher's, it originally had its own Abattoir, it's now the Bridgetown Business Centre. Somewhere I have some old pictures of the owner, I'll have to search for them. |

I used to sleep in this bedroom in the 50's as my Grandfather owned the house and ran a music business from a shop on the ground floor. There was not inside bathroom - tin bath and the toilet was outside up the entry!!
My Grandfather died in 1966 and the shop usage changed a few times, but id did become a Music shop again, but today on Street View it seems to be a clothes shop. |
