This is before the 'loop' was widened to take longer locomotives which couldn't negotiate the tight bend.

The old town bridge only had one tunnel for the train. The new current one has two.

S.S. St Julien. My grandfather worked on this ship, sailing between Weymouth and the Channel Islands 1923 - 1939. During WW2 the ship was used as a hospital ship but was bombed at Dunkirk. Even though the ship was back in service soon after, my grandfather never returned to the ship due to the injuries he recieved and the effects of shock.

Hope Cove - where the early cross channel ferries docked. The Cove was partly filled in and used to stretch further in towards Hope Square on the left.

Chapelhay - this area was hit by a German bomb in WW2 and a lot of the buildings were destroyed. Most of the area was eventually cleared.
