The former Shrewsbury and Hereford Railway, opened 1852-53 by Brassey, the noted railway contractor. Taken over by the Great Western and London and North-Western railways as a joint line in 1862. The track at this point was also used by the GWR for its branch line to the west for Titley and other stations.
