This gap is the site of the Savoy cinema, demolished just before WW2 broke out. M&S intended to build the second phase of their store here but the war put a stop to it. The Darley Street entrance to Kirkgate Market and Coronation bunting visible through the gap of the demolished Savoy Cinema which was replaced by the, much larger, former Ritz/ABC on Broadway. The Savoy was demolished before WW2 with plans for an M&S store, but those plans were thwarted by the war and the shortages in the years after the war.
