Loughborough Derby Road Station. Built by the Charnwood Forest Railway Company - Opened to traffic 1883 and operated by the LNWR. Subsequently LMS after 1948 and British Railways after 1948.
Closed to passenger traffic in 1931 and goods traffic in 1955. There was the odd passenger excursion - the last from Loughborough being to Leamington Spa in 1939. The last railway enthusiasts special visited Loughborough Derby Road on 3rd May 1952. After 1955 the Charnwood Forest Railway terminated at Shepshed and the line to Loughborough was used for wagon storage. |

Fowler 4F from Coalville Town Shed. At this date the Coal Stage seems to be used for supplying water to the engine only. The coal shute as beenremoved along with the ramp for the coal wagons which would be shunted inside the coal stage and coal transferred manually via a small hand pushed cart to the coal shute. The coal shute exit can be seen in the side of the coal stage near the coal tender of the Fowler 4F |

Loughborough Derby Road Station (LNWR) LNWR Coal Stage - remains of turntable can be seen to the right of the white LMS corrugated steel shed next to the coal stage. Goods Shed and Coal Sidings. LNWR 5 Ton Yard Crane removed by this date. Station Closed to Passengers 1931 - Closed to all traffic 1955. The Charnwood Forest Railway ran from Charnwood Forest Junction on the east side of Coalville via stations at Coalville East, Whitwick, Thringstone, Grace Dieu, Shepshed, Snells Nook and on to the terminus at Loughborough Derby Road. The stations at Thringstone, Grace Dieu and Snells Nook were simple railway halts with a 60ft long platform made of railway sleepers. Several years after opening each of these halts was a given a small standard LNWR wooden hut for passengers to shelter in whilst waiting for their train. |
