The Admiralty fuel oil station and jetty. This was set up in 1908 when the government decided that the fleet would become oil fired in lieu of coal, despite the fact that meant it would be dependent on foreign supplies. Subsequently, in 1914, the government bought a controlling interest in Anglo Iranian Oil, which subsequently became British Petroleum. By World War 2 this storage facility had expanded to 40 tanks.
