Empire Steel Works. [Bottom right hand corner] became the Yorkshire Electric Transformers Co. Ltd, Brewery Lane, Thornhill Lees, DEWSBURY, W.R.Yks. Manufacturer of electric power transformers. Fronting Brewery Lane is the office block. The long upstairs window is the drawing office, behind the offices is the small transformer erection shop. To the left is the engineering dept & large transf. tank welding shop. The long building to the rear is the large transf. erection shop. The large white roofed building is the small transf. tank welding shop. The whole site is now occupied by a residential development. The canal is the Calder & Hebble Navigation. The factory [top centre] is James Austin's & Son, steel construction engineers. The road on the left is Lees Hall Road leading onto Ravensthorpe Road. The road beyond Austins is Forge Lane & parallel to that is the colliery railway sidings. Thornhill Power Station is identified by the smoking chimney's |
