Central one of 3 x 7.5 inch counter bomardment guns installed during the period from November 1941 and July 1942. The earlier, visible filled in, gun positions had held a 9.2 inch Breech-loading Mk. X and two 6 inch Breech-loading Mk. VII guns which were installed by March 1905. These were later replaced in 1940 with 2 x 6 inch Naval guns. By 1941 these had been removed to Park Battery.

St Lawrence Mission Church (Anglican) in the Parish of St Peter, Harton erected in 1939 and consecrated two years later. The building had previously served as the chapel of Bede College, Durham, before being moved. It subsequently became simply St Lawrence Church, Harton and, following rebuilding, became the Parish Church of St Lawrence the Martyr, Horsley Hill.

Marsden Cottage Halt which claimed to be the smallest railway station in the world, having only one platform, the length of a single carriage. The station closed in 1954. The path to the left across the Coast Road towards the coast led to Marsden Cottage (also known as Salmon's Hall) itself, a small hamlet clustered around the main house), which was demolished in the 1930s.

Not quite in the right place: Watson Avenue is a continuation of Forber Avenue and is therefore higher up the picture, beyond Sutton Way.
