Grade 2* Japanese Garden List entry Number: 1000936
No public access.
The Japanese garden was originally part of a 25 acre estate owned by Hugh Micklem a Kentish fruit farmer
The layout and features of the garden were designed by Raymond Berrow for Hugh Micklem in 1919 and are modelled closely on those indicated for a 'Hill Garden - finished style' in Joseph Condor's Landscape Gardening in Japan, published originally in 1893.
In 2009 it was reported that two bronze cranes and Japanese statuary had been stolen, and The Pond is heavily
silted and no longer holds water, the mature trees require careful pruning, especially in and around the bog garden area and the Tea-house needs some attention |

a minor correction; Hugh Micklem was a stock jobber not a fruit farmer |
