Grace Street. My auntie and uncle lived here in the end house. Their blank wall is facing the camera.

I'm quite a few years late joining this site but thought I'd take a chance and reply to your post!! I lived at 9 Grace Street!! Your auntie and uncle would be Hilda and Ernie Massey! A lovely, lovely couple!! When I visit Landican cemetery, I always go to their grave and say hello! Really LOVELY people!!

(1) A glorious cinema; oft termed a "fleapit"; known colloquially as "The R-Ten". One afternoon circa 1953 a teenager was sitting in there having a quiet smoke, when a young lady approached in the darkness along the row in front. She asked if the youth "had a light". Upon proudly flashing his newish cigarette lighter, the lady opened her coat to reveal that she did not have a stitch of clothing on, except for said coat. Youth nearly swallowed his fag. (2) So good to see photos of the prefabs. It was a pretty hellish era. Birkenhead was decimated by WW2 (as were other places, of course) but the acres-upon-acres of bombsites. Just so horrific really.
