This footbridge is still in situ in the Feeder Road. it has a ramped approach from the east side and footsteps from the west side. |

The Great Western Cotton Factory opened in 1838 and closed in 1925, a year before this shot was taken. And yet some of the north-light workshops look pristine, as if just constructed |

As a little kid I grew up close to this area. There's another bridge just out of shot at the bottom of the pic. The works still had employees - producing what I don't know - and near the stone entrance was where my playmates and I would search in the dirt for remnants of Victorian clay tobacco pipes. I still remember the old lady selling taffy apples from her window ledge in one of the terraced houses nearby. All the row housing was bulldozed in the late 195s and replaced with hideous concrete highrises. |
