The Great Central railway favoured the ticket office built on the bridge with a walk way bridge and steps down to the island platform. The design allowed only one platform which had two faces and was narrower.

Renola works- 1930-1987 REYNOLDS AND CO. Mr Wilfred Reynolds started the business in 1930 manufacturing underwear. The firm was originally based on Papplewick Lane, but soon moved to premises on Watnall Road, when the company employed one hundred and forty people. In 1938, the firm amalgamated with Messrs. Newby, Groves and Meakin of Leicester but continued with its own ‘Renola’ brand. In 1987 the factory closed due to the introduction of cheap imports into the U.K. The premises became a gymnasium, called the “Muscle Factory”.

Many railway stations had the Gents in a standalone little building away from the rest of the station - this is one.

Hucknall Central railway station. Central as in part of the Grand Central railway, not very central in Hucknall. It was the third station in the town and the least convenient, leading to low usage. It was used by railway workers going to Annesley loco shed. This railway line ran from Manchester (to the left in this image) through Hadfield and Sheffield (Victoria) through ere and on to the right to Leicester, Rugby and London. The station was constructed circa 1896-1898 by the contractors Logan and Hemmingway and opened as Hucknall Town in 1899, renamed Hucknall Central in 1923. The station was closed to both passengers and goods on 4 March 1963. The London side (eg the station side) of the road is now housing but the former path of the (track removed 1969) line can be followed towards the North for some way. Leicestershire County Council record office have a photograph of the early days of the station construction in 1896 as part of the S W A Newton collection. This and other later images can be seen at: http://www.disused-stations.org.uk/h/hucknall_central/index.shtml
