Working with image EPW031526, the group did some research into the reasons for new housing estates being built in town the 1920s and 1930s, roughly at the time the image was taken in 1930.

A lot of the members of the group remember Horner's Confectionery Works in Chester-le-Street, famous for producing Dainty Dinah toffees. They have researched the factory's history as well as shared their memories linked to it. The factory is shown in image EPW031528 in 1930s.

Members of the Pelton Fell Local History group have worked on images from the Aerofilms collection, combining local history research with memories of the place they live in. This picture shows the Front Street, the old great North Road, the shop fronts, and behind some of the premises which line the Front Street in 1930. In the distance is the East Coast railway line with its impressive viaduct.
