St James Church. Alveston has two. The old St James church, goes back to the 10th century but only the chancel remains, not visible in this image, although in the image, the small building is well hidden in the trees to the right towards Alveston House. The church marked here is the new St James, consecrated May 1839. Enlarged 1875. Patterns painted on the walls by Belgian refugees in 1914-18 were painted out in 1979. Tower restored 1945.

Stucco; hipped slate roof with stucco stacks; ashlar rear elevation. 2 storeys; symmetrical range with 2 lower wings flank single-storey infill porch, which breaks forward.

Alveston House Grade 2* listed building English Heritage Building ID: 366128 Post code CV37 7QL Small country house. 1689 with C18 alterations. Brick with blue headers and ashlar dressings; hipped tile roof with 2 brick cross-axial stacks and stack to valley. Double-depth plan. Restoration style.
