St James Church.
Alveston has two. The old St James church, goes back to the 10th century but only the chancel remains, not visible in this image, although in the image, the small building is well hidden in the trees to the right towards Alveston House.
The church marked here is the new St James, consecrated May 1839. Enlarged 1875.
Patterns painted on the walls by Belgian refugees in 1914-18 were painted out in 1979.
Tower restored 1945.
