Nos 16-18 Lowlands Road were the premises of a long-established firm of funeral directors; J A Massey & Sons. The firm moved from this location probably during the 80s or 90s and the row of buildings in which it was located was torn down. Strangely, the site has remaine unoccuped ever since. A perfect opportunity missed for Harrow Council to approve another high-rise office block, I would have thought. |

AEC K-type open-top bus. Very likely based at the LGOC bus garage that then existed next to South Harrow station.
Looks like a Haig's Whisky ad posted on the side. |

This parade of single storey shops still exists and includes a bar. In its day, it would have been quite nice. There still remains decorative tiling and stonework detailing, as well as one of the two cupolas seen here. The parade is now in sore need of some TLC, which I suspect it will never receive. |

Not really. Harrow Bus Station would appear on a triangular site belonging to LT on the west side of the College Road entrance to Harrow Met station. There were some hutted retail premises on the site, presumably rented out by the Met Rly/LT. The site was way over to the right and out of shot. |

This property and the adjoining properties would be combined to form the Harrow Hotel.
This is now closed and awaits redevelopment. |

Coal and other goods. And a busy place it once was with its own dedicated shunting loco, which was supplied alternately, every five years, by the Met Railway and the GCR/LNER. Coal from here was delivered by rail to the gasworks in South Harrow. When the goods yard finally closed, in the early part of 1967, the area became a business park. The old Met goods shed in the picture was retained and used by a building supplies company. It finally disappeared when they built the Morrisons store. |

It was the sort of place where you could get Mullard valves from an old boy wearing a brown warehouse coat. |
