I can help you out here, the Laird. This was a social club during the 1960's, I remember attending at least two wedding receptions there and I'm sure it was CIU affiliated. |

I'm obliged to you Sweet Pete. I have absolutely no recollection of it at all. Did the club have any London Transport connection? It seems to be built on what was then station land and in the same style as the new station. There's a large office block there now, as there is along most of that side of Lowlands Road now. My God, Harrow has got ugly. |

I can remember a period in the 1970s when it was inexplicably renamed as 'The Gateway'. Happily, this was a temporary aberration and it reverted to its former name. Athough it still exists, it has been remodelled internally and has completely lost any of its former atmosphere. |

I'm a bit puzzled by this. Aluminium stock didn't appear until the second batch of R stock was introduced in 1952 on the District Line. They were painted in Underground red livery, except for one train which was left unpainted as a trial. The first batch, introduced in 1949, were steel-bodied and painted red. The silver/unpainted aluminium colour scheme was not adopted wholesale on surface lines until the introduction of the unpainted A60/62 stock on the Met in the early 1960s, at which time some R stock and converted steel-bodied Q38 stock trailers running in conjunction with them on the District Line, were treated in the same silver livery. So wrong time-scale and wrong line. I wonder if the disparity has more to do with the photographic process. |

Most likely these two cars are clean, the others not so, it was still the era of coal fires from houses, trains and factories. |

Lower Mead stadium and the chest clinic & car park are now Tesco. The store is where the stadium was. Rest of it is their car park. |
